# Roles and Permissions

Roles and permissions control who can create, edit, and view data in Topicflow.

## Common roles

**Employee:**

* Can manage their own goals, meetings, and feedback
* Can view their own reviews
* Can participate in surveys

**Manager:**

* Everything employees can do
* Can manage goals and meetings for direct reports
* Can write reviews for direct reports
* Can view feedback for direct reports

**HR/People team:**

* Can create programs (reviews, surveys)
* Can view organizational reports
* Can manage settings

**Organization admin:**

* Full access to all settings and data
* Can manage integrations and permissions

## Configuring permissions

Admins can:

* Assign roles to users
* Create custom roles (in some plans)
* Set default permissions for new users

## Best practices

* Grant minimum necessary permissions
* Review permissions regularly
* Use role-based access (not individual exceptions)
